Reading and Writing Tutoring

Our Approach

The Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach is often considered to be the gold standard approach to teaching literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia.

The OG-based programs we use follow over 75 years of time-tested knowledge and research and use phonics-based instruction that can be modified for people of all ages and abilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

The key to OG’s effectiveness lies in its direct, explicit, and structured instruction. Students learn the rules and patterns that make up the English language, giving them the ability to both decode (read) and encode (spell) words, even when they aren’t familiar. The structured approach ensures that we identify and close all gaps in a student’s reading and writing foundation.
OG is just as effective for adults as it is for kids. We offer reading and writing support for individuals of all ages, 6 and up.
All of our tutors are certified in one or multiple best-in-class literacy programs, such as Wilson, Barton, and Lindamood Bell. Most have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in reading intervention and special education.
The program provides comprehensive instruction on all critical areas of reading and writing. This includes: phonological and phonemic awareness (i.e. letter and sound recognition), phonics, syllable recognition, word structure, syntax, comprehension, fluency, and writing skills.
Within the first two weeks, we will always conduct a baseline assessment of skills to determine where a student is across each of the skills mentioned above. From there, our tutors will design a lesson plan that focuses on key areas of improvement, while also reinforcing foundational skills. We use a strengths-based approach to build confidence in each student as they learn new concepts.
Individual session prices vary based on which package is purchased. We offer monthly payment plans for all packages. Session packages are priced as follows: 100 sessions - $63 / session 50 sessions - $71 / session 25 sessions - $80 / session Month to month - $80 / session
